Employability training for five local authorities
Overview
Our commission was to develop ‘The Work Experience Challenge’, a two-week employability training course. To engage with over 300 hard to reach Tyne & Wear residents and help move them closer to the workplace. The ultimate aim of the Challenge is to improve the participants’ employability skills. As well as demonstrate job readiness and move them closer to or into the work place. There has been successful delivery of the course three times a year for five years.
Solution
Through interactive exercises, live scenarios, facilitated discussion and humour, we create a safe environment. An environment where participants can observe external stressors on their lives and receive support to make small changes. Our professional actor/facilitators present live scenarios using credible characters that participants can empathise with. This enables Gibber to encourage participants to become more aware of individual barriers to progression. Consequently, this widens their comfort zones, increases confidence, raises self-esteem and ultimately improves upon their employability skills. Furthermore, the course supports development of soft skills and addresses potential barriers to employment. Finally and most importantly it links potential employees with employers.
